A bodysuit is the thing your newborn will wear most, day and night, right against the skin. So the fabric matters, and so does the certificate behind the word "organic".
Here's the short answer. To start, choose the Nature Baby derby two-pack. For the first weeks, choose the Konges Sløjd newborn body. If you'd rather not pull anything over a tiny head, choose the DUNS Sweden kimono wrap. For a finished garment tested against harmful substances, choose the Wheat body. Anything about your baby's health is a question for your BVC nurse or midwife.

How we chose
Every bodysuit here passed the Standard: the fabric against your baby's skin is organic cotton, and it carries a certificate we looked up ourselves. We went through every bodysuit in the baby clothing category and ranked them by what you actually choose between: a two-pack, a newborn size, a wrap, a knit, a bit of stretch. Every GOTS licence below is one we found in the GOTS public database, and the Wheat certificate is one we found in the OEKO-TEX Label Check. The material details below come from each brand's own product information.

GOTS or OEKO-TEX: what's the difference on a bodysuit?
GOTS certifies how the textile was made; OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certifies that the finished article was tested. GOTS covers every step of production, from fibre processing and spinning to wet processing, manufacturing and trading, including chemical inputs, according to GOTS. OEKO-TEX states that every thread, button and accessory of a Standard 100 article has been tested against a list of over 1,000 harmful substances.
If you remember three things
- "Organic" on a GOTS label means at least 95% organic fibres. GOTS says the lower grade, "made with organic", needs at least 70%.
- On an OEKO-TEX label, look for product class 1. OEKO-TEX says that's the class for babies and children up to three, with the strictest limits.
- Read the composition line. For all natural fibre, choose a body that's 100% cotton; for stretch, the DUNS Solid is 5% elastane.
Frequently asked questions
How can I check a bodysuit's certificate myself?
Type the certification number, or the company name, from the label into the GOTS public database, which GOTS says anyone can search. For OEKO-TEX, scan the QR code on the label or enter the certificate number in the Label Check.
Why is the GOTS licence sometimes in another company's name?
GOTS says a retailer doesn't have to be certified itself, so a label may show the certification number of its supplier instead. Sometimes it's simpler: Hust & Claire's licence is registered to the brand's own company, Claire Group A/S.
Does a GOTS licence mean the bodysuit itself was tested?
No. GOTS describes itself as a standard for the production chain, with requirements for fibres, chemical inputs and social criteria. A test of the finished article is what OEKO-TEX Standard 100 describes, which is what the Wheat body carries.
