Good to have in wellies and winter shoes, but also nice to snuggle up in indoors and to tread over cold floors. Untreated wool keeps you particularly warm because it insulates and wicks moisture away from the skin, so you don't get cold. Wash rarely! The fibre structure and lanolin content of untreated wool make it antibacterial. Usually an overnight airing is enough to make them smell fresh again.
